What is COMPARE
What is
COMPARE
When anti-TNF treatments stop working, families are left making difficult decisions without enough information. That’s where COMPARE Pediatric IBD comes in. This national research study will help doctors understand how newer, off-label therapies work for kids and teens with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

The COMPARE research study aims to answer an important question:

Which new medicines work best and are safest for kids and teens with Crohn’s or colitis when older treatments stop working?

Our goal is simple: to help families and providers find the most effective and safest next steps in care.
Why COMPAREMatters

COMPARE
Matters
So why does all this matter? Meet Dr. Michael Kappelman, the lead researcher behind COMPARE. He’ll walk you through why this study is so important for kids, teens, and families living with IBD.

Kids & teens deserve more choices. COMPARE is helping find them.

There are now more than a dozen FDA-approved treatments for IBD—but they’re all for adults.1

Kids don’t have nearly as many choices. Only two medicines are FDA-approved 2, even though almost 1 in 4 people living with IBD are under 20.3

This is where COMPARE comes in!

Across 31 pediatric centers, we are working to learn which treatments work best for kids and teens with IBD.

What does all this mean?

When approved options stop working, families and doctors often have to make tough choices without enough evidence to guide them. COMPARE is helping to close that gap.

Families, patients, and providers have shaped COMPARE from the very beginning. Hear what they had to say about COMPARE!

“I support this research because these medications could help stop the progressing of IBD in many young patients. Speaking from personal experience, if such medications were introduced in my earlier years, I may have avoided surgery.”
~ Austin, Patient with IBD

“I think this research question is the most relevant to the most kids… in terms of benefit per child, this is the highest level of benefit”
~ Catalina, Patient with IBD
